What was your favourite competition of 2017?
It had to be my first ever World Championships in Wales. The entire competition was a whole new experience for me, three days of back-to-back shooting.
I absolutely loved it and was luckily enough to have my best shooting performance I have ever had during the competition.
Which competition are you most looking forward to in 2018?
It would have to be Either the European Championships at West the Midland Game Fair or NEFTA Classic. The Euros is always a challenge as overseas shooters compete, the weather is usually interesting over the two days.
The NEFTA Classic is great for stamina. You shoot 40 Sillottes targets in the morning and then a 40 Target course in the afternoon. The next day you alternate and shoot the 40 Target course in the morning and the sillies in the afternoon. It doesn’t matter how long you practice for the sillies when you are lined up with another 12 plus shooters and you all fire at once the nerves can get even the top shooters.
What is the hardest part about shooting in competitions?
Stamina and concentration, keeping focused especially if there are stoppages throughout the competition.
What advice would you give to someone who will be shooting in their first competition this year?
The more you can prepare before the competition means the more you can enjoy your day. “Fail to prepare is prepare to fail”. Make sure you’re ready for anything and you will bang the targets each time.
