Air Arms shooter Steve Privett was crowned overall winner of the recent Paul James British Recoiling Championship (PJBRC), which was held at Anston Field Target Club in Derbyshire.

The PJBRC 2020 is the world’s largest springer competition, with 120 talented shooters competing in FT, HFT and SFT. The much-loved event raised £2,533 this year and over the past eight years organisers have raised a total of £21,000 for The Prince of Wales Hospice.

Wiltshre-based bricklayer Steve scored an impressive 32 with his Air Arms air rifle. He commented: “I found the wind tricky to read as it picked up one moment and dropped the next so you didn’t know quite where to aim. Some shots you thought needed for you to allow for wind went straight and others you aimed down the middle went miles out. My favourite part of the competition was actually finding out that I had won after seven years of trying!”

Organiser Mark Calpin added: “Highlight for me was watching Steve taking his winning shots, how he manages to get the score he does is nothing short of a miracle. My other highlight would be the raffle at the end of the shoot, this plays a vital part in helping us raise extra funds and ensures people get a bit of something to take home. Air Arms has supported PJBRC from the start when it was just a crazy idea and they’ve played a vital part in helping us raise funds, which is not only great for The Prince Of Wales Hospice but speaks volumes about our community.”
