It’s the final day of the Target Sprint Festival and we re-join the talented athletes that have all qualified from competitions across the country to compete for championship glory.
What is Target Sprint?
Target Sprint is an internationally recognised air rifle discipline combining running with target shooting. The competition consists of three 400m running stages and two 10-metre air rifle shooting stages.
It’s another day of fast paced running and target shooting. Athletes from around the country who have qualified in regional competitions prepare to give it their all. The morning begins with the heats of various age categories moving onto the finals later in the afternoon, incredible skills in both target shooting and running were on display. The finals were now set.
As preparations for the finals begun, Sheila Cooper of Air Arms ran down some of the amazing features of the brand new Target Sprint air rifle, the TS400. Which has been purposely designed for the sport.
The finals were soon underway and the competition heated up. Stephanie Bradbury finished the senior women finals in first place. In the senior men’s final it was Oliver Vass who took home first place glory in a gold medal. The youth women were in action next and Isabel Moore finished the course with the quickest time. After a neck and neck finish in the men’s youth competition, Sam Jones and Harrison Pepper were awarded a joint gold medal. Next up was the junior women and it Araminta Stubbs was who crossed the finish line first. To close out the incredible Target Sprint Festival 2018, Arno Turner won the gold medal in the junior men’s final.
The three-day festival has been a great success. There were some amazing races and incredible showcases of skill in both running and target shooting. 2019 is set to be another fantastic year for Target Sprint.
